2013/2014 gads (Delilah priekšpusē).AEF Moderator, jc_AEF (Joleen Maiden) has one "Eagle Eye"! She noticed something familiar about the sub-adult that visited the nest today, that it had somewhat of a lumpy beak. This eagle appeared to be approximately 4 years old. Romeo and Juliet's offspring, Delilah, from 4 seasons ago also had a lumpy (signature) beak. We often commented if she ever returned, we would know it's her by her beak! After reviewing past photos and comparing with the visitor, Joleen, cynmari_AEF (Cindy Trudeau) and Gretchen came to the conclusion this visitor is very likely Delilah. Here are some comparison photos (click the pics for better view)
Over at the Northeast Florida nest ~ Romeo is on the eggs when he sees a sub adult visitor arrive in the nest tree. He alerts warning vocals as we get some beautiful footage of the visitor. Per Gretchen AEF Mod - this eagle appeared to be approximately 4 years old. Romeo and Juliet's offspring, Delilah, from 4 seasons ago also had a lumpy (signature) beak. We often commented if she ever returned, we would know it's her by her beak! After reviewing past photos and comparing with the visitor, we came to the conclusion this visitor is very likely Delilah. What an exciting discovery! Thank you for watching!
Dec 4, 5:45 PM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): It actually depends what part of the country they come from. Northern eagles are larger than southern eagles, with Alaskan eagles being the largest. Females are roughly 20 – 30% larger than males. Male bald eagles weigh between 6 – 9 lbs. A southern male eagle may weigh only 6 lbs. An Alaskan female bald eagle can weigh up to 15 lbs. The average female Bald Eagle is 35 to 38 inches. The wingspan varies from 6 to 8 feet.
Dec 4, 5:51 PM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): Our best guess is that they are in their late teens, maybe older. The nest was discovered in 2006 and was active but we can’t confirm that Romeo and Juliet were using it. Gretchen started monitoring the nest in 2008. So they would have to have been at least 5 years old in 2008 to produce eaglets – that would make them at least 15 years old at the very youngest, but probably older than that.
Un ligzdas svars ir apmēram tonna. Vecāki ligzdas materiālu sanes apmēram 200 mārciņas gadā.Dec 4, 6:16 PM
beach_AEF (Moderator): The nest is about 6 feet around. It is an oval.
Cik lielas ir ērgļu olas? Atbilde, ka lielākas par vistu olām.Dec 4, 6:17 PM
beach_AEF (Moderator): It weighs over a ton since Mom and Dad cam bring up to 200 lbs of nest material a year
Olas ir beisbola vai tenisa bumbiņas izmērā. Tā ir baltas vai bēšas krāsas, matētas.Dec 4, 6:25 PM
beach_AEF (Moderator): eggs are larger than a chicken egg.
Salīdzinājums ar tenisa bumbiņām.Dec 4, 6:25 PM
beach_AEF (Moderator): Eggs are about the size of a baseball or a tennis ball. They are white to beige in color with a matte finish.
Man liekas, pat ĻOTI līdzīgs!
